The overriding problem facing East Africa's environment is degradation and loss of habitat. A growing population is exerting more and more pressure for land in agriculturally productive areas. Less than 4% of earth enjoys some kind of protected status; more than 95% of the worlds species live outside of these reserves. So if we really need to save the wildlife we love, we must look at strategies other than the traditional ones of outright acquisition or governmental designation of parks and reserves. One such approach is eco-tourism to create economic incentives for conservation.

In Adventure Vacations East Africa Co. we have what is called real eco-tourism. If we want nature-based tourism to live up to its potential to preserve the natural world, we need to concentrate ownership and profits in hands of the local people, because it is these people who will decide to deforest or preserve, hunt sustainably or  push species to extinction.

Our most recent conservation campaign is working with young local people by training them to play an active role in conservation. You too should join us today in this fight to conserve our environment.
